Hair Update and a few nasty surprises…

So, I thought I would update you on what’s been happening with my hair.  Well, my hair it’s still growing in…it’s getting darker,  thicker and slowly growing down on the sides. I have about an inch to go and then it will be 100% covered all over.  It seems to be growing about an inch downwards every 8 weeks.  I also have all my eyelashes back on one side (most are still light but a they are turning dark) and the other side seems to be filling in, especially over this last week. I paint castor oil on them every night and I think this has helped them get thicker. Maybe I’ll soon be able to use mascara on them… toxin free of course!!  My eyebrows have a lot of thick white growth but nothing dark yet.  Patience is the key, plus appreciation for what I do have.

Here are some recent photos showing what my hair currently looks like.

March 2017

A few weeks ago, I was getting disappointed that my hair wasn’t all over yet and my beautiful and always supportive Mum said to me “Have a look at photo’s of yourself back in July with nothing at all. If you could see back then, what you have growing now, you would be jumping with joy and not looking at what isn’t. You wouldn’t even notice those side bits, not quite there yet”. And she was right, I need to focus on what I do have and not what I don’t have… the law of attraction.

It’s now the two year anniversary from when I first noticed that I was losing hair on the cruise and during the last month I have been working at releasing lot’s of repressed emotions around this traumatic time. It was like reliving that time on the cruise again (and my son having a very bad asthma attack) feeling trapped, suffocated, very scared and not knowing why my hair was falling out. I have done this with the help of two very special healing friends and it felt so good to let everything go and TRUST that it will all be ok. I think this was holding me back in truly healing and now I just need to STOP worrying that something else terrible will happen to me again. I also pieced together all the missing pieces of the puzzle, knowing why it fell out. This has given me peace and answered many unanswered questions I had for two years.

I’m using lots of my DoTERRA essential oils to help with this feeling, including Helichrysum (an amazing healer of pain). It helps to restore confidence in life and in myself, after trauma or loss. I rub a drop of it on my throat chakra each morning plus night and only after a week, I can feel the difference.

I’ve still been eating amazingly but unfortunately caught two nasty parasites on a recent health retreat by drinking contaminated water… UGHHH! This is the last thing I need right now. But I am starting a detox to eliminate these parasites in the next few days and are hoping with the right herbal products, probiotics and looking after myself, plus eating right, that they will go fast. My acupuncturist can also help with chinese herbal medicine.

When I found out last week that I had these parasites, I began to panic and worry that it would make my hair stop growing or fall out again or stop. I’ve had to really not let it worry me. Once again had to dig deep and be reminded that losing all my hair has forced me to seek healing and completely change my life in every way, and funny enough, after a week of knowing I have these parasites, I’ve now accepted this is another part of my journey. It’s something that I have been forced to learn about and will once again rise from the challenge. I eat amazing, get lots of sleep, keep toxins out of my environment and look after myself, so I think it will all be OK.

It’s also made me get some updated blood tests which I haven’t had since last August and learn that my Iodine, B12 and Homocysteine levels are out of balance. I need to work on correcting these and I am doing so with further testing and the help of a Naturopath.

I’ll keep you updated on my progress with hair plus my two unwanted friends over the next few months.

Love and healing, Jo xoxo

Why I love using Essential Oils…

Essential Oils are pure extracts from plants, they are 50-70 times more powerful than herbs. They are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of plants. Plants produce essential oils to fight threats such a mould, bacteria, viruses and fungus. Essential Oils have been used for thousands of years for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits. All doTERRA oils are independently tested Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oils and are amazing and now part of my everyday life. They can

During my journey to grow back my hair, I’ve been trying to reduce any toxicity I put on my body and around our home. I first started off using doTERRA Geranium oil instead of perfume and fell in love with its beautiful smell. I always get people stopping and asking me what I am wearing. It’s still my favourite oil to wear as a perfume. I also bought Lavender Peace as I was having trouble sleeping. It’s a calming blend with oils like lavender, ylang ylang, sandalwood, sweet marjoram, roman chamomile and vanilla bean. It brings a sense of tranquility, calm and peace. It is perfect for rubbing on your feet or wrists and getting a restful nights sleep.

Since my first two bottles, I’ve become a doTERRA Wellness Advocate and now use them for everything, even my family and friends have become hooked. They are truly addictive.

Here are just a few essential oils that I use –

  • Basil Oil – rubbed directly on my adrenals helped with my adrenal fatigue. It supports any mental strain I am having and helps strengthens the adrenals and restore the body to its natural rhythms of sleep, activity and rest.
  • Frankincense – also known as the Oil of Truths. This oil is incredibly powerful and brings about healthy cellular function. It’s another of my favourites and I rub it on my heart chakra daily to help manage anxiety plus have been using it recently to heal a wound on my finger.
  • Lavender – is calming and relaxing (great in the bath) but is also perfect for healing my little man’s mozzie bites. One drop of this twice daily on his bites and they are gone in no time. I also make my own fabric softener (with Apple Cider Vinegar and bicarb soda) and also pop a few drops of lavender into the mix, it makes our clothes smell amazing.
  • Clary Calm – this ones great for balancing your hormones, especially around your periods. Just roll it on your lower abdomen and any pain is gone. It helps to balance your mood and keeps you calm. I recently went off birth control after being on it for over 20 years and this has really helped stabilise my periods.
  • Oregano – no more antibiotics needed with this powerful oil. Oregano gives your immune system a boost. It also helped kill a small wart on my finger which had been there for years.  You can even use it in a bolognaise sauce, you won’t even need a drop, it’s so strong.
  • Peppermint – perfect for headaches (no more nurafen) –  my husband and kids use it. My Dad also uses peppermint oil for his sciatic nerve which causes him much pain, just a drop of this relieves the ache. It’s great for alertness and I’ve popped it on my daughter’s feet when she has an exam at school to keep her energy high. It’s also clears your airways. I even use a few drops to make peppermint bliss balls, yummy.
  • Lemon – a few drops of this freshens your dishwasher and glasses come out crystal clean. Delicious in hot water first thing in the morning (a great way to start the day) or put it in your water bottle for a delicious flavour. Also great for removing stickers and sticky things.
  • Grapefruit – has a beautiful fragrance and I make up an air freshener with filtered water to spray around my home. Also supports healthy metabolism, pop a few drops in your water bottle.

Each day I use one drop of Zendocrine (a detox blend), two drops of DDR Prime (a cellular complex), one drop of Tea Tree and one drops of Oregano in a vegetable capsule for healthy cellular function. This was muscle tested for me as being beneficial for my health.

I also use the oils to help stimulate and grow back my hair, please see my other post with recipes for growing back your hair using essential oils.

Essential Oils are also beneficial for balancing emotions and I use them each day depending on what mood I am in. Vetiver helps me feel grounded and emotionally connected. Arborvitae helps to trust in divine grace. TerraShield helps to protect me and gives me strength. You’ll be amazed with the changes these oils make in your life.

Over the coming months, I’ll also post some of my favourite recipes using doTERRA oils including natural hand sanitiser, carpet cleaner, makeup brush cleaner, hand cleansing spray, air freshener, deodarant, hand soap, bath bombs, drain cleaner, mouth wash, epsom salt baths etc.

It’s funny how having my hair fall out has changed my life in so many ways. Had it not fallen out, I don’t think I would be using these amazing oils in my life. They have definitely contributed to my healing by reducing toxicity in my body and environment, balancing my emotions and hormones, healing my physical body plus increasing my spiritual awareness and connection. Yes, it sounds crazy but they have.

Essential Oils for Hair Loss

Essential oils have played a huge part in my healing journey. I use doTERRA essential oils daily.

Here are some formulas to help grow back your hair –

  • 8 drops of rosemary
  • 10 drops of lavender
  • 10 drops of cedarwood
  • 10 drops of tea tree
  • 10 drops of cypress
  • 2 drops of white fir

Mix with some fractionated coconut oil, pop into a roller bottle and roll onto head. Note: I made up a huge bottle of this so just increased the oil quantities. You can leave this on overnight or at least 30 minutes.

This particular recipe was muscle tested by my Kinesiologist to be beneficial for me. I try and massage it on 3-4 times a week.

  • 3 drops of rosemary
  • 5 drops of lavender
  • 3 drops of thyme
  • 2 drops of cypress

Rub onto bald areas and let it sit for 5 minutes. You can keep this on till you wash your hair next. You can also blend it with fractionated coconut oil.
